2008 – THE BEGINNING
Otsuka Lotec was created by Jiro Katayama in Tokyo, Japan. Katayama worked hard as an industrial designer for cars and household products before finding his true passion for whacking. He embarked on an adventure to teach himself the art of watchmaking as he was hoping to create watches unlike anything else on the market, and that he did. The name “Lotec” comes from “Low Technology” Katayama believes that simple mechanical engineering is what makes beauty, rather than unnecessary complexity. What is so special about these pieces is that Mr. Jiro Katayama combines both; his love and passion for watchmaking and his professional background as an industrial and product designer for inspiration in the field of luxury watch making. His vision comes from vintage machinery, measuring instruments, cameras, industrial equipment and machine tools rather than traditional Swiss watch design.
2020- THE NO. 7
No. 7 was introduced by Otsuka Lotec, featuring a jumping hour complication and an industrial inspired display. Its unique and nontraditional features is what instantly attracted collectors to this piece. In 2021 Katayama refined the original concept and released the No. 7.5. Katayama wanted to elevate the piece by making something that was a conceptual art piece into something that would be more durable and reliable for daily wear. The main updates are found in the display, originally No.7 featured two apertures, with the minute and running second discs sharing the same axis. No. 7.5 inspired by vintage 8mm turret cameras, separates the hour, minute and second displays into three independent apertures. Many collectors mentioned how this piece reminds them of aircraft gauges and laboratory instruments because of its industrial design.
2023 MAJOR UPGRADE
The No. 7.5 received significant improvements. Upgraded from SUS303 to 316L stainless Steel and Mineral crystal replaced with sapphire crystal. This version also features a custom sapphire lens rather than acrylic hour lens. The brand also improved the jumping hour module for greater durability and reliability. This upgrade also included a new branded buckle and redesigned leather strap. Otsuka Lotec’s priority has and continues to be to stay on top of the game, making durable and reliable pieces, which is why there were numerous upgrades to this model.

WHY COLLECTORS LOVE IT
Otsuka Lotec created something that does not resemble any Swiss luxury watches, not only physically but its functionality as well. This timepiece has a complexity different, unique and extravagant way of reading time. Orders often exceed production as there are very small numbers of this piece available. What is so interesting about this watch is that it is primarily sold using the lottery system due to the demand being so high. In 2024 the piece won the prestigious 2024 iF Design Award, and in 2023 the No. 7.5 was selected for preservation by Japan's National Museum of Nature and Science because of its technical and design significance.
